Equipment

  • Espresso machine or moka pot (for brewing espresso)
  • Milk frother (handheld, electric, or built-in) – or a whisk/jar for manual frothing
  • Measuring spoons (for syrups and caramel)
  • Tall glass mug or cup (to showcase the layers)
  • Spoon (for stirring and drizzling caramel)
  • Small saucepan (if heating milk on the stove)
  • Blender (optional, if making a frappé variation)

Ingredients

  • 1 shot of freshly brewed espresso or ½ cup strong coffee
  • 1 cup milk whole, oat, or almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup
  • 1 –2 tablespoons caramel sauce plus extra for drizzling

Instructions

Prepare the espresso

  • Brew one strong shot of espresso. If you don’t have an espresso machine, use a moka pot or French press for strong coffee.

Steam the milk

  • Heat the milk until hot but not boiling. Froth it using a frother or whisk until creamy.

Add syrup

  • Pour vanilla syrup into your serving mug.

Layer the milk

  • Add the steamed milk and foam on top of the syrup.

Pour the espresso

  • Slowly pour the espresso through the milk foam, creating that beautiful layered effect.

Finish with caramel

  • Drizzle caramel sauce in a crosshatch pattern over the foam.
