Ingredients

  • 10 corn tortillas
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp citric acid for tangy flavor, optional
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp green food coloring powder or green + blue mix

Instructions

Prepare the Tortillas

  • Cut the corn tortillas into small triangular shapes, similar to Takis-style chips.

Heat the Oil

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 175–180°C (350–360°F).

Fry the Chips

  • Carefully place the tortilla pieces into the hot oil.
  • Fry until golden and crispy, then remove and drain on paper towels.

Make the Seasoning

  • In a bowl, mix together:
    chili powder
    cayenne pepper
    smoked paprika
    garlic powder
    salt
    citric acid
    food coloring powder
  • Stir until fully combined and evenly colored.

Coat the Chips

  • While the chips are still warm, toss them in the seasoning mix until fully coated.

Serve

  • Serve immediately or store in an airtight container to keep them crispy.

Notes

  • Do not add wet tortillas to hot oil — this can cause splattering.
  • Powder food coloring works best for even coating.
  • Citric acid provides the sour “Zombie Takis” flavor; adjust to taste.
  • For extra crunch, fry the tortillas in small batches.
  • Allow chips to cool completely before storing to avoid sogginess.
