To begin with stage one of the cooking process, the following ingredients are required:

  • 4 chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons whole-grain mustard (optional for added texture)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme (to garnish, optional)

Preparation steps:

1. Season the Chicken

Pat the chicken breasts dry, then sprinkle both sides with salt, pepper, and paprika for seasoning.

2. Sear the Chicken

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Place the chicken breasts in the skillet and cook for 5 to 6 minutes on each side until they turn golden and are nearly cooked through. Set the chicken aside on a plate.

3. Prepare the Honey Mustard Sauce

In the same skillet, sauté the garlic for 1-2 minutes until it’s fragrant, but be careful not to let it burn.
Lower the heat to medium, then stir in the Dijon mustard, whole-grain mustard (if using), honey, and apple cider vinegar. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce is smooth and begins to bubble.

4. Cook the Chicken in the Sauce

Return the chicken to the skillet, spoon the honey mustard sauce over the top, and let it simmer for another 5-7 minutes until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature should be 165°F or 75°C). The sauce will thicken slightly.

5. Serve

Once the chicken is cooked, remove the skillet from the heat. Garnish with fresh thyme if desired and serve immediately.
